Centaurus Talismans

Copper Talismans of Centaurus, the southern constellation traditionally described as Philyrides – “son of Philyra” – that is, Chiron, in his celestial form. It is recorded in Albertus Magnus’ De Mineralibus that talismans of this constellation were made “for constant good health”.

These talismans are intended as aids to spiritual vitality, health and well-being (no medical claims implied). They work with Chiron’s ancient form — known centuries before the minor planet given his name. Ancient Greek coin (L), Centaurus talisman (R)

One image of Chiron, from an Ancient Greek coin, depicts Chiron holding a lyre (the round pendants), and another, from a modern intaglio, shows Chiron holding baby Asclepius (rectangular pendants).

The images were cast in copper clay with the degree of Centaurus’ fiducial star (Menkent) rising on the tropical ecliptic, while the Moon in Cancer sextiled the constellation after its conjunction to exalted Jupiter. January 4, 2026 between 2:30-3 AM near Amherst, MA.

There are few astrological requirements for such talismans, but I chose to create these constellational talismans during Mars’ transit of Capricorn for an emboldened “sublunary sphere” — as the projected ecliptic degrees of the Centaur inhabit Scorpio, ruled by Mars. Therefore both Moon, and Ascendant and its Lord are dignified, representing the holder of the talisman.

The clay impressions were kiln fired during Moon’s transit of the constellation, and pendants were affixed during the lunar return in Cancer.

Copper talismans are set in plated silver, plated gold, bronze pendants (3 each) and one set in large round brass ( Copper pendants, $165). One round tiger eye cabochon pendant, inscribed with the Greek Phi for Philyrides ($75). All prices include domestic US shipping. Please contact me with any questions about these talismans, or to specify which pendant you are ordering.

From a previous talisman write-up: The image that is indicated for such talismans, in sources like that of Albertus Magnus, is a Centaur holding an offering at an altar. Here we are using our tried and true intagio image of Chiron holding baby Aesclepius.

Constellation Centaurus from the Nujum al Ulum, Persian Encyclopedia of the Sciences (Wellcome MS 373)

The indicated purpose of these talismans is “For Constant Good Health.” While we do not make any medical claims for this or other services and items offered, we can attest that the energy surrounding the creation of these talismans did hold the highest healing energy of Master Healer Chiron.

My sense in working with this constellation is that it is the ‘higher’ or more cosmic form of the Centaur being whose spirit also imbues our local Centaur planet with grace.
