Pholus is another of the wise Centaurs. Within his cave, he held the ambrosia of the gods, until the hero Hercules got wind of it. A scuffle broke out between the centaurs which caused the hero’s weaponized poison to wound both Pholus and Chiron. Thus Pholus indirectly brought about Chiron’s trade with Jove-smited Prometheus, and in turn, Chiron’s ascent into the heavens as the constellation Centaurus. Astrologically, Pholus represents the spectrum of nectar/poison and the process of catharsis from psychological and ancestral wounding.
